FAQ
Where is the wedding taking place?
The Ceremony/reception is Saturday, August 8th at the Olympia Ballroom,
116 Legion Way SE, Olympia, Washington 98501.
The post wedding hang is Sunday August 9th at Pioneer Park,
5801 Henderson Blvd SE, Tumwater, WA 98501.
When is the wedding?
The Ceremony begins promptly at 5pm on August 8th.
Please arrive by 4:30pm and be seated before 5pm.
What is LAIR?
LAIR is a live action role playing fantasy battle game that doesn’t take itself very seriously.
Joel helped facilitate LAIR when he worked at Hidden Valley Camp. We played for
Joel’s 30th bday and it was a blast! We wanted to play it again 10 years later
as a part of our post-wedding hang! Read more about LAIR and the rules and roles
here!
Is there parking at the Olympia Ballroom?
Parking in downtown Olympia is free on weekends. It can be crowded so you may have to park farther away.
Thankfully Downtown Olympia is small and walkable.
Is there parking at Pioneer Park?
Yes, there is a big parking lot, that earlier in the day should be fairly empty.
By the mid/late afternoon it will likely fill up. Plan accordingly.
LAIR will start at 1pm, but we encourage you get to Pioneer Park by 11am for Lunch and Lair preparations.
Where should I stay?
We would recommend staying close to downtown Olympia on the night of the 8th,
so you can easily walk back to your lodging/hotel after the party.
Here are two downtown hotels:
DoubleTree by Hilton
TownePlace Suites by Marriott
You could also consider these cheaper hotels in Tumwater, that are close to Pioneer Park:
Best Western Tumwater-Olympia Inn
Motel 6 Tumwater
You could also look into Airbnb, other nearby hotels, staying with friends, camping etc.
If I fly in, what is the best way to get to Olympia?
Flying in to SeaTac airport is usually the easiest way! You can take the bus from the airport to Olympia,
which takes about two hours and is only $3.
Do you have a wedding theme?
The theme for our wedding ceremony/reception is ***infinite stars***
so if you would like to dress in outfits that evoke stars or celestial vibes, we would encourage that.
We will be dressed formally in our own way, and would encourage everyone to dress up for an elegant summer evening,
yet one where we will be prioritizing dancing! So bring a change of shoes or clothes if you would like to
dance extra hard and want to be more comfortable.
Anything I need to bring for the park hang?
We will provide:
Burgers/Hot Dogs/Buns/Condiments & Water/NA Drinks
Cardboard and tools for Lair weapon making
Things you should bring:
LAIR Costume (Think Medieval meets Junkyard)
Swimsuit for the river
Extra Snacks
Picnic Blanket
Sunscreen
Sunhat
Do I need to think about the weather?
The Ceremony and reception will be indoors so there’s little to worry about.
It’s possible it’ll still be fairly warm inside the venue at the beginning of the Ceremony
so don’t wear anything too heavy i.e. fur coats and parkas.
The weather should be nice for the park hang. Dress for sun, swimming and battle!
What else should I do while I am in Olympia?
There are beautiful parks and nature around, a couple we'd recommend:
Squaxin Park
Watershed Park
McLane Creek Nature Trail
Some fun spots to get breakfast/coffee are:
The Bread Peddler
Bar Francis
Olympia Coffee Roasters
or you can pick up some groceries at either the east or west side Olympia Food Co-op
